Independent Acura specialist serving Chico and Butte County since 2007. MDX, RDX, TLX, ILX, Integra, RL, RSX, and all Acura models. J-series V6 timing belt, SH-AWD differential service, VCM cylinder deactivation diagnosis, and 2.0T carbon cleaning. No dealer required to keep your warranty.
Tedious Auto Repair is Chico's independent Acura specialist — MDX, RDX, TLX, ILX, Integra, and all Acura models since 2007. We service J-series V6 timing belts (interference engine — do not skip), SH-AWD rear differentials every 30,000 miles, and diagnose VCM cylinder deactivation issues. Oil changes from $89.98. No dealer required.
J35 V6 VCM and timing belt (2003–2009 gen 1/2). SH-AWD rear differential service every 30,000 miles — the most commonly missed Acura service item. 3rd-gen (2014–2020) timing chain and VCM issues. 4th-gen (2022+) turbocharged 2.0T.
2nd-gen RDX (2013–2018) with J35 naturally aspirated V6: VCM-related oil consumption. 3rd-gen (2019+) turbocharged 2.0T with direct injection — carbon cleaning at 60,000–80,000 miles. CVT fluid service on 1st-gen turbocharged (2007–2012).
TL V6 (2004–2014): J32/J35 timing belt every 105,000 miles — interference engine. VCM on 3.7L V6 TL. TLX (2015+): SH-AWD service, P-AWS system. 2021+ TLX: 2.0T direct injection.
ILX uses Honda Civic platform (K24Z7 or R18). CVT fluid service every 30,000 miles. 2023+ Integra uses 1.5T from Civic Si — same carbon cleaning and CVT service requirements.
C30A and C32B naturally aspirated V6. Timing belt every 90,000 miles. Dry-sump lubrication service. We treat NSX work as specialty — call to discuss before booking.
RL: J37 V6 timing belt, SH-AWD. RSX: K20 or K24 maintenance, valve adjustment at 105,000 miles. TSX: K24 or J35 depending on generation. All models get same thorough treatment as Honda platform vehicles.
Acura's Super Handling AWD system uses a rear differential with an independent fluid that degrades quickly in heat. The recommended service interval is 30,000 miles — but it's rarely done at dealer oil changes and is one of the most commonly missed items. Contaminated SH-AWD fluid causes vibration, AWD engagement issues, and eventual differential failure.
SH-AWD diff service: $149.99. Rear differential replacement: $2,000+
Same Variable Cylinder Management issue as Honda Pilot and Odyssey — cylinders 4, 5, 6 deactivate at light load causing uneven oil consumption, misfire codes, and rough idle. An aftermarket VCM Muzzler or tune that disables deactivation resolves the issue permanently.
VCM Muzzler: $149–$199. Cylinder repair if ignored long-term: $2,500+
All Acura J-series V6 engines (J32, J35, J37) use an interference timing belt that must be replaced at 105,000 miles or 7 years. If the belt snaps, the engine is destroyed. MDX and TL are the most common Acura models we see with overdue timing belts.
Timing belt service from $899.99. Engine replacement if belt snaps: $4,500+
The 2.0T turbo engine in 3rd-gen RDX and 2021+ TLX uses direct injection only — no port injection to clean intake valves. Carbon buildup on intake valves causes rough idle, misfires, and power loss at 60,000–80,000 miles. Walnut-shell media blasting cleans the valves without engine disassembly.
Carbon cleaning: $549.99

No. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prohibits Acura from requiring dealer-only service. Your factory warranty remains valid at any qualified independent shop using Acura-specification fluids and parts. We document everything.
$89.98 for full synthetic 0W-20 or 5W-20 — all 4-cylinder, V6, and turbocharged Acura models. Includes free 100-point digital inspection with photos.
Acura's Super Handling AWD rear differential uses a separate fluid that should be changed every 30,000 miles. This is the most commonly skipped Acura service — contaminated fluid causes vibration, engagement problems, and eventual differential failure costing $2,000+.
All J-series V6 Acuras (MDX, TL, RL, RDX 1st-gen) have an interference timing belt that must be replaced at 105,000 miles or 7 years. If it snaps, the engine is destroyed. We recommend belt + tensioner + water pump in one visit.
The most common cause on J35/J37 V6 Acuras with VCM is cylinder deactivation issues — the deactivated cylinders develop oil fouling and misfires. We diagnose the actual root cause and can install a VCM Muzzler to prevent recurrence.
Yes — all current Acura models including the 2021+ TLX 2.0T and 4th-gen MDX. We have the diagnostic equipment for current Acura platforms and perform carbon cleaning on the direct-injection 2.0T.
