A Ram 3500 dually can weigh 7,000–8,000 lbs loaded. Add a 15,000-lb trailer and you're asking the brakes to slow 23,000 lbs on every stop. This requires significantly larger rotors (13–14" vs 10–11" on a Civic), higher-friction pad compounds, and robust calipers with larger pistons. Using passenger-car-grade parts on a diesel truck is a safety risk — we use HD-rated components for every heavy truck brake job.
Diesel trucks towing on Hwy 99 and descending from Paradise Skyway or Hwy 32 mountain grades put extreme thermal loads on brakes. High moisture content in brake fluid dramatically lowers its boiling point — brake fade and pedal fade under sustained heavy braking are real risks on trucks with degraded fluid. We moisture-test brake fluid at every service. DOT 3 above 3% moisture: flush recommended.
Most diesel truck owners towing in Chico use an electric trailer brake controller. When braking complaints arise, we check the trailer brake controller output and wiring harness as part of the brake diagnosis — a misadjusted controller can cause the trailer brakes to drag or not engage, changing the vehicle's brake feel significantly.

This can allow rear rotors to develop surface rust and the rear calipers to seize from inactivity.
