Passive regen happens automatically at highway speeds. Active regen is ECM-triggered — it raises exhaust temps to 1,100°F to burn accumulated soot. Short-trip Chico driving (farm/ranch errands, city driving) prevents regen from completing.
Farm/ranch trucks in Chico often do mostly town driving — the DPF loads up in 5,000–8,000 miles and triggers limp mode. A forced regen and driving pattern change often resolves this without replacing the filter.
A DPF light could be: clogged filter, failed NOx sensor, faulty DEF injector, EGR valve stuck, or SCR catalyst issue. We scan all codes and live data before recommending any component replacement.
We perform a forced regen with OEM scan tools before recommending filter replacement. If the DPF can be cleaned this way, replacement is avoided. Written report if replacement is genuinely needed.
Soot load is high and regen has not completed. A highway drive may allow passive regen. If limp mode engages, bring it in for a forced regen diagnostic.
We perform forced regen via OEM scan tools. If the filter is physically damaged, we quote replacement. We never recommend replacement without confirming the filter itself is the issue.
ECM limits power to prevent DPF damage. Root cause could be DPF, NOx sensor, DEF fault, or EGR issue — diagnosis identifies which.
Highway driving regularly for regen. Fuel filter every 15,000 miles. Correct DEF fluid. Prompt EGR fault repairs.
We service all engine, trans, fuel, and cooling systems regardless of emissions config. We cannot diagnose emissions-specific systems that have been removed.
