Spark Plug Replacement

Spark plug replacement is an important step in maintaining the life of your engine. Not only does a properly functioning spark plug improve fuel efficiency, but it can also help reduce harmful emissions.

Auto Repair

Our mechanics are trained to inspect the general condition of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles. We use complex testing equipment such as compression testers and engine analyzers.

Vehicle Maintenance

Performing regular vehicle maintenance increases the life of your vehicle, improves fuel efficiency, and saves you money in the long run. It’s also a good way to prevent unexpected breakdowns.

Auto Diagnostic

Performing an auto-diagnostic test can save you money in the long run. If you catch problems before they become major, you can avoid expensive repairs down the road.

Parts & Replacement

While there are many types of auto parts, it’s important to know which to choose. Some parts need to be replaced more often than others, and some parts are more reliable than others.

Why Spark Plugs Are Important & Their History

Signs Of Bad Spark Plugs

Spark plugs wear out and cause your vehicle to waste gas at first, then eventually, they start to shake and sputter, causing your check engine light to illuminate.

Spark plugs can last anywhere from 40 to 120 thousand miles, depending on the year, make, and model vehicle and what kind of running condition it is in. Of course, each car is a little different, so it is critical to follow each manufacturer’s recommendations.

The History

In 1860, Etienne Lenoir invented the spark plug. He used it in his own engine that same year. Nikola Tesla also played a part in the birth of the spark plug. But, it wasn’t until Robert Bosch’s engineer came into play that the spark plug became popular. Spark plugs have come a long way since they first were designed. There are many types of materials that plugs are made from today including, copper platinum, double platinum, nickel iridium, ruthenium, and more.

The Effects Of Faulty Plugs

Failing or faulty spark plugs can lead to problems such as engine misfires, rough idling, and fuel economy. Not having your vehicle tuned up regularly can lead to issues with your car, and these problems can be costly to repair.

You can identify if your spark plugs are failing by visually inspecting the spark plug, but will take a socket set, a spark plug socket, and an extension as well as the knowledge to do so. Black soot on the functioning part of the plug indicates carbon fouling. Carbon fouling is a sign that your spark plugs are catching the spark inefficiently.

Other common signs of bad spark plugs include a smell of unburned fuel, thick exhaust smoke, and a rotten egg odor. These warning signals are preemptive, and you should pay attention to them and seek guidance from a qualified mechanic such as Tedious Repairs.

not only did Tedious Repairs complete the job I had my Golf in for, but in addition he added a few repairs for a very reasonable price, (after confirming with me that it was O.K.) such as repairing a tire that had a nail in it; I will return to this business in the future for my auto's needs

Highly recommend this shop! The owner is super friendly and was able to get my car in for a brake job the day that I called. It turned out to be extra work than we had initially thought and, once approved, they had no problem taking care of the extra work immediately. They also did a full car inspection with descriptions and pictures sent straight to my phone. The up front communication and honesty were both greatly appreciated. Brake price was the best that I found in town after much research. I will definitely be back for future repairs!

Why Spark Plugs Are Important

A spark plug is a car part that produces a bolt of electricity that ignites the fuel and air mixture inside the engine cylinder. It also helps dissipate heat away from the cylinder. In a standard four-cylinder engine, you will have four plugs, a six will have six, and so on.

The spark plug is a crucial component of your vehicle. It has to work well to keep the engine running properly.

Spark plugs can be made of a variety of metals. They come in all shapes and sizes. Some are made of silver while others have platinum or iridium tips.
If you have a fouled-up spark plug it won’t produce much spark, which means it may not ignite the fuel in that chamber.  Once that chamber does ignite it will leave residue behind and cause build-up.

For the sake of your wallet, the environment’s sake, and your vehicle’s sake, do a tune-up on your vehicle as per your manufactures recommendations.
