Modern iridium and platinum spark plugs last 60,000–100,000 miles. Worn plugs cause misfires (P030X codes), rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and hard starting. We replace with OEM-specification plugs — never copper plugs in modern coil-over-plug systems. Ignition coils inspected individually — a failing coil causes the same symptoms as a bad plug and is often missed in basic tune-ups.
The most critical maintenance item on interference engines — if the belt breaks, the engine is destroyed. Honda J35 V6 (Pilot/Odyssey/Ridgeline), Toyota 2TR-FE (Tacoma 2.7L), and Subaru EJ series all use timing belts. Replaced at 105,000 miles / 7 years with the water pump, tensioner, and idlers in one job. Non-negotiable on these engines.
The serpentine belt drives the alternator, AC compressor, power steering pump, and water pump. Chico's heat accelerates belt aging — cracks and glazing appear sooner than in cooler climates.
