Every water pump job includes thermostat replacement (same access, inexpensive parts, prevents a return visit), coolant flush and OEM-spec refill, and a post-repair pressure test. The water pump has a weep hole that allows small amounts of coolant to escape when the internal seal fails — this is by design, to prevent coolant from contaminating the bearing. A wet or crusty white residue below the weep hole means the seal is failing. A small weep becomes a full leak quickly in Chico heat.

Coolant weeping from the pump's weep hole (white residue below the front of the engine), grinding or whining bearing noise from the front of the engine, overheating without a visible external leak, or coolant level dropping slowly without obvious cause.
